Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The arguments regarding the historical value of buildings are supported by an example (Taj Mahal), but the explanation of why they should be restored is slightly repetitive. The counter-argument regarding modern infrastructure is mentioned but lacks depth, as the connection between demolishing old buildings and creating 'convenient life styles' is not fully explored. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation of the 'why' behind the arguments rather than just listing potential benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Similarly', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To conclude, after carefully considering both the view points.' Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'They pay entrNowadays tourist industry...', where the sentence structure breaks down. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations. For example, 'some expects who profess stating' is non-standard, and 'umpteen old building left' is too informal for an academic essay. The phrase 'chunk of funds' is also slightly informal. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'monuments' and 'regimes', the overall range is limited, and errors in word formation (e.g., 'purpose' instead of 'propose') occasionally hinder the precision of the argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('these places teaches', 'regimes could built'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'For examples, Taj Mahal is one of the 7th wonder' contains multiple errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
