Student answer (Band 7.0)
Restoring old buildings has become a trend nowadays, where buildings such as town halls and art galleries are restored to a better condition. This is because it shows people about the history of earlier days. However, some people believe that it should be replaced by new buildings such as shopping malls. I personally believe that old buildings should be restored, so that the younger generation should understand the sacrifices of their ancestors.
To begin with, some people believe that old monuments should be restored to a better condition. The ancient structures are the symbol of hard work and dedication, therefore preserving them is our moral duty. Moreover, when the younger generation is totally relied on the technology, having a look at the earlier structures will let them understand the value of hard work. For instance, visiting old museums and architecture will tell people that anything in the life is possible if you ready to work hard. Additionally, visiting old galleries help students to enhance their knowledge in the history.
On the other hand, others argue that restoring old structures is a waste of money and resources, therefore replacing it with new shopping malls is a better idea. A shopping mall in the city attracts a significant number of people to do shopping. Also, it allows people to explore various stores in a single building and ultimately saves their time. In addition to that, a shopping mall contains number of stores, due to which it improves the employability of the people. For example, if a shopping complex opens in the area, it gives job to store persons, security staffs and various other professions.
In conclusion, despite the fact that a mall enhances employment rate in the city, preserving old buildings and galleries help people to learn for their ancestors and set goal in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting both views and a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the historical value of old buildings versus the economic benefits of modern shopping malls. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'hard work' as a lesson from old buildings is a bit abstract and could be better supported with more concrete examples. The conclusion is brief and could have been used to better synthesize the main points. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition to that.' While these devices are generally effective, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is clear, though the link between 'hard work' and 'old buildings' in the second paragraph could be more smoothly articulated to improve the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use a range of vocabulary, such as 'monuments,' 'dedication,' 'employability,' and 'significant number.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'anything in the life is possible if you ready to work hard' (should be 'anything in life is possible if you are ready') and 'gives job to store persons' (should be 'provides jobs for shop assistants'). These errors do not impede communication but prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, although some contain grammatical errors. For example, 'the younger generation should understand' is used correctly, but there are issues with articles and verb forms, such as 'anything in the life' and 'if you ready.' Punctuation is generally sound, but there are occasional slips in subject-verb agreement and pluralization (e.g., 'security staffs' should be 'security staff'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the grammatical control is sufficient for a Band 6.0.
