Student answer (Band 6.0)
People hold differing views regarding whether old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries. While some advocate for that should be restored, even though this can be costly, other people argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings. This essay will examine both perspectives before explaining why I believe that it is no need to repair.
On the one hand, supporters of ancient buildings argue that should be restored. Because, there are many buildings are old, so it is unable to use as a office or another purpose. For example, if any worker work there and building would be broke down, then who will be responsible for their lives and family. Therefore, it should be repair some necessary requirements, such as town halls and art galleries.
On the other hand, opponents maintain that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings. They believe that it is very crucial to replace with new building, because that all buildings are very old and not able to use as a work place. For example, there are not even single washroom to use for employee and consumers. Moreover, this perspective may provide greater benefits in term of replace new construction in building. Therefore, government should listen to people and take some action regarding people requirement.
In conclusion, from my perspective, both arguments possess certain merits. Nevertheless, I am inclined to support that people who argue against to replace old buildings with new, modern buildings, because it is crucial. In addition, the long-term advantages appear significantly greater.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. The arguments for both sides are repetitive and lack specific, well-supported examples. For instance, the claim that old buildings lack washrooms is a weak argument that does not fully address the complexity of the topic. Furthermore, the position in the conclusion is confusing; you state that you support those who argue against replacing old buildings, but your introduction suggests you believe there is 'no need to repair' them. This inconsistency makes your overall stance difficult to follow, preventing a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. While you use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', the internal flow within paragraphs is often disjointed. For example, the transition between the safety concerns in the second paragraph and the conclusion is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'old buildings', 'new buildings', and 'replace'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary related to architecture, urban planning, or historical preservation. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'it is no need to repair' or 'in term of replace new construction', which hinders clarity. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations and more precise terminology to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'While some advocate for that should be restored' and 'there are not even single washroom'. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary subjects and verbs. The control of complex structures is weak, and the errors are pervasive throughout the text. While the meaning can usually be inferred, the high frequency of basic errors in tense, article usage, and sentence construction limits the score significantly.
