Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believed that restoring old buildings such as art galleries, town halls and other bigger places could be costly while others were not in this favor as they thought government should destroy these old places by building new places for the society. Today in this essay I will elaborate both the viewpoints and give my opinion on this topic.

In this era, saving the old historical buildings are so helpful for the upcoming generation and for the society. As this could be expensive to restore them by giving attractive looks to these buildings. Moreover, these places also taught us about the ancient things and the culture we carry through. Also, spending a lot of money will help people in increasing the tourist places in the country. It will become an income source for many unemployed individuals. Furthermore, restoring old buildings would be beneficial for the youth and other natives to learn about their culture and history.

However, most people are in favor that government should demolish these buildings and build new buildings for the society. This idea is also helpful in generating revenues and employment for the society. As building new shops an malls on these places will give employment to individuals and people will easily get access to shops in the cities. For example, in Delhi an place was totally broken down from several years. Delhi government made a plan to on open a vocational school for the poor children who cannot afford their education fees. These days on that place more than 1200 students are studying there and fulfill their dreams.

In conclusion, I would say that both the viewpoints have strong hold towards the society and country as one point shows about the historical culture while other explains how abandoned places can be used for education and recreational purposes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that restoration is helpful for the upcoming generation, the explanation remains a bit superficial. The example provided regarding the vocational school in Delhi is relevant and helps support the argument for modernization. To improve, ensure that your personal opinion is more clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs. Currently, the conclusion mentions both sides but does not explicitly state which side you favor, which is a requirement of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing and some mechanical transitions. For instance, the start of the second paragraph feels slightly disjointed from the introduction. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demolish', 'vocational', and 'recreational'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'destroy these old places by building new places' and 'strong hold towards the society'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to urban planning and heritage conservation. Avoid repeating basic words like 'places' and 'buildings' too frequently; instead, use synonyms like 'structures', 'sites', or 'facilities'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses (e.g., 'Some people believed' instead of 'believe') and article usage (e.g., 'in an place'). Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'saving the old historical buildings are so helpful'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Proofreading for small errors in articles and prepositions will also help increase your accuracy.
