Student answer (Band 6.5)

There are many individuals in this modern world who wants the government to restore or maintain our old heritage town halls or art galleries on the other hand, there are also some people against it as they want to replace these sites with modern buildings. both of these viewpoints have their own pros and cons which will be discussed in the following paragraph.

on the one hand, if the government contributes in our town halls and art galleries it will be beneficiary for our future generation to stay connected with old heritage and history also it will help boost tourism in the local cities. preserving these sites are very vital as these are the last piece of history which our future generation will be able to see physically.in addition to it this will directly impact the revenue of the government as there will constant tourism which generally prefer to see the old heritage sites which are in the city.

on the other hand, it is also very costly to maintain these places by the government due to the raw material and the corruption by the contractors. talking a real life example The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world which is located in India but the cost of still maintaining it is more than 20Lakh rupees per year , which includes replacing its raw material , painting , general constructions etcetera. on the top of it there are many contractors who use the funded money as a bribe and provide cheap material for the repairs.

in conclusion, personally I do believe that restoring these buildings are very important as discussed above but I also believe that restoring each and every site is not practical due to the funds available with the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention tourism and historical value, these points could be expanded with more depth. The example of the Taj Mahal is relevant, but the argument regarding corruption is slightly tangential to the core debate of preservation versus modernization. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point directly supports your stance and provides a more comprehensive analysis of the trade-offs involved in urban planning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'on the one hand' and 'in addition to it'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'physically.in addition'). Improving the use of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure will enhance the overall coherence. The transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is clear, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'heritage', 'restore', and 'modernization'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'contributes in' instead of 'invests in' or 'maintains', and 'beneficiary' instead of 'beneficial'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. The range is sufficient to communicate your message, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, such as 'individuals... who wants' (should be 'want'). There are also issues with article usage and punctuation, particularly missing spaces after full stops. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
