Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is argued that historical buildings such as city halls, and art museums should be renovated considering the fact that they might be costly, where as another group of people opine that building should be redeveloped into modern, smarter, and energy efficient buildings.

Firstly, I would say many persons love authenticity, we should not change art gallery, townhalls it maintain the originality and history alive. Even though todays generation totally relies on just screen they do not pay attention into culture. By restoring this it will help us teach our generation about how everything was manmade without any machine and artificial intelligence. Moreover, by preserving them it will create memories and the achievements of past.

However, Change is always good, in todays era we should change our society places according to the needs, moving our eyes towards population we need high rise building for living. For instance, Modernity with new technology helps to deal with harsh weather and new building are much more safer and have more life span than the older.

On the contrast, New big things to replace it leads towards that requires much more investments and time, After these multi story houses will lead young generation towards the closed behavior as modern things have all the polished benefits.

To conclude, After discussing both views sticking to the old buildings by maintaining the old relationship and athecate our culture will be more valuable rather than transferring every place in modern places, old buildings can be maintained and should be kept as a gold.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'modern buildings' is slightly disjointed, and the point about 'closed behavior' in the fourth paragraph is unclear and lacks sufficient explanation. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The position is consistent, but the reasoning is occasionally superficial, which prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'On the contrast' (which should be 'In contrast'). Additionally, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes interrupted by grammatical issues, making the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed at times. Overall, the structure is clear, but the management of cohesive devices needs more refinement to achieve a higher level of fluency.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'athecate' (likely meant 'advocate' or 'appreciate') and 'gold' (used metaphorically but awkwardly). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'renovated', 'redeveloped', and 'authenticity', but the overall range is limited. Frequent errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'society places' instead of 'public spaces', occasionally hinder the clarity of the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'new building are'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'moving our eyes towards population'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors is required.
