Student answer (Band 7.0)

In today's developing world, it is crucial to preserve your culture. Many people support the opinion that old buildings such as town halls and art galleries should be preserved regardless of cost, while on the other side people want the government to demonetized them and build the new modern building. In upcoming paragraphs, the essay will discuss both views before forming the well rounded conclusion.

One of the most significant benefits to restored old building is to preserve our culture. Sometimes money does not matter, what matters is to respect the culture, background and dignity of the country. When we restored the historical monuments then only the next generation will be stay connected to their roots and culture. Moreover, it reminds people about the enriched history of the ancestors. For instance, Taj Mahal in India is a monument which is one of the seven wonders and it represent the love. Every year it is repaired and inspected by architecture.

On the other hand, critics believe that it is the wastage of money to cure and restored old building. This opinion is based on belief that when we restored old building it requires plenty of funds and people would not be allowed to use those building. Those building are just tourist attractions. In spite of restoring the old building, the government should use those funds to build new and modern building. It facilitates in reducing the housing problem; instead of cutting more trees that affects green house gases, we can use land of old building.

In my opinion, there should be a balanced approach and the government should decide which building is paramount to restored and which needs to be demolished. Moreover, with the modernization, people want their country to be developed and compete with other developed countries.

In conclusion, although the restoration of old buildings need adequate funds, it is vital of preserve the culture and dignity of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of preservation versus the economic and practical benefits of modernization. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about 'greenhouse gases' is introduced but not fully linked to the argument about replacing old buildings. The position is consistent throughout, though the conclusion could have been more robust in summarizing the 'balanced approach' mentioned in the body. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion, such as 'Those building are just tourist attractions' following a sentence about funding. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though some connections between sentences could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'paramount' and 'enriched history'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'demonetized them' (likely meant 'demolish') and 'cure and restored' (should be 'maintain and restore'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. A wider range of topic-specific vocabulary would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'restored old building' instead of 'restoring old buildings', 'the wastage' instead of 'a waste'). Some sentences are awkward, such as 'it is vital of preserve the culture'. Despite these errors, the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, and the mistakes rarely cause confusion for the reader. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would improve the score.
