Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this Contemporary world, architecturers are dependent on the customers need to display their ideas with well balanced contribution of the both parties. However, some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly while others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

First of all, Town hall and art galleries plays significant roles in people life. Majorly, spreading knowledge and ancient way of showing methods and beauty to the future work. Apparently, I do agree to it, as it stays for generations to learn and explore. However, it has a draw back of getting costly when its time to have maintainance. Hence, I believe that government should look after this and prioritise the conservation of the past in term of remembrance of the gone.

Second of all, growing economy comes with huge responsibilities. However, mordern building can provide comfort and luxury to the people but cannot give them the knowledge and capabilities of hardship. Adversely, restoring the art galleries helps to generate modified ideas from existing supplies. However, current trend of the "generation Z" is to bring back the old design and innovate it to generate income.

Finally, I fully support to restore the old town halls and art galleries despite being expensive to the government for conserving. Not only, this old building becomes the strong pillars of the history to be known but also becomes a powerful education tools for the society. Artist are known by vision through their art and it should stay with us.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'generation Z' and 'innovating old designs' is not clearly linked to the prompt about town halls and galleries. The essay touches on the importance of history and education but lacks concrete examples or deeper analysis to fully support these points. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments remain somewhat repetitive and lack the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the repetitive use of 'However' at the start of sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'growing economy' and the rest of the argument is tenuous. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between ideas could be smoother to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'architecturers' instead of 'architects', 'in term of' instead of 'in terms of', and 'education tools' instead of 'educational tools'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'conservation' and 'restored', the overall range is limited, and the errors in word formation occasionally distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Town hall and art galleries plays') and incorrect article usage ('the both parties'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often clunky. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization is needed.
