Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 211 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-supported. For instance, the argument regarding the economy is mentioned but not explained with sufficient depth or relevant examples. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples to ensure the task is fully developed as required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To begin with first notion' and 'Consequently , arranging houses'. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by the brevity of the arguments. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Moreover' and 'Although', the overall flow is somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of your cohesive devices will help create a more natural and logical progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and range expected for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'reserved' instead of 'preserved', 'shortage of living life', and 'ancient mystery'. Additionally, there are issues with word forms, such as 'nations economy' (missing possessive apostrophe) and 'metropolitian'. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are natural. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and heritage would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'despite of it cost', 'While other believed', and 'prices of households items cost pay almost double'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and the misuse of sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence boundaries will significantly improve your writing.
