Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as tourism benefits for preservation and housing shortages for modernization. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented in a repetitive manner, and the conclusion is slightly underdeveloped. The position is clear, but the reasoning could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. For example, the suggestion to turn historical buildings into housing is a creative point, but it lacks specific detail on how this balances with the cultural value of the structures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In current revolving era' and 'To restore this cause'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'monuments', 'renovated', 'infrastructure', and 'historical significance'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'revolving era' instead of 'rapidly changing era', 'history buildings' instead of 'historical buildings', and 'getting extreme tourism'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision and sophistication of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('few people says', 'it should be depend'), incorrect verb forms ('they will became', 'government should builds'), and article usage errors ('the country economy'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but control over these structures is inconsistent.
