Student answer (Band 6.0)
Due to the modern era, the space for living has became a serious problem in the society. Therefore, people are divided on whether the old buildings should be restored even it is expensive or should be replaced with new modern buildings by the government. However, I am partly agree with both believes.
To begin with, while preserving some historic buildings is important, I believe that replacing outdated buildings with modern one is more beneficial, because it improves safety and meets the needs of a growing population. As a result, not only a lot of money can be saved by the government that can be spent on the maintenance of the old buildings, but also modern buildings focus on convenience. For example, new buildings offers advanced facilities to individuals because as these buildings are recently build, so every new technology or equipment will be installed in the building to make individuals live more easy.
On the other hand, although modern buildings are necessary to meet today's needs, I believe that historically important buildings should be preserved because they reflect a nation's culture and heritage. As a result, many old buildings attract tourists, which further contributes in the economy and the growth of the country. Despite, their high maintenance costs may effect the government budget, old buildings should be restored due to cultural significance and this can help to educate new generation about their own culture and nations history.
In conclusion, based on aforementioned reasons, I still affirm that, even it is a old building or a new building, both have own advantages and disadvantages for people as well for the government. It is all depend on the necessity of which building we needed the most and when.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as safety and population growth for new buildings, and cultural heritage for restoration. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented in a fairly general way without deep exploration. While the position is clear throughout, the conclusion is slightly repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the implications of these policies rather than just stating the benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'Despite, their high maintenance costs'. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother to ensure a more sophisticated flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'maintenance costs', 'cultural significance', and 'heritage'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I am partly agree' (should be 'I partly agree') and 'make individuals live more easy' (should be 'make life easier'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('new buildings offers', 'it is all depend'), incorrect verb forms ('has became', 'recently build'), and awkward phrasing ('even it is a old building'). Punctuation is generally functional, but these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage.
