Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that ancient buildings like museums, art galleries should be renovated, despite the immense money incurred on this. While, others think that authorities should convert these places with contemporary structures. In this essay I will discuss both the sides before reaching to a valid conclusion.

On the one hand, historic buildings holds a significant meaning in society. As, these structures helps to gain information regarding our traditions and culture. For example, many schools take their students for educational tours to provide them knowledge about their history. As a result, history and culture of that particular place is get preserved and gets passed on to new generation.

On the other hand, higher authorities ought to change them into new constructions such as, hospitals with advanced technology, and sports centers for youngsters. The reason behind this is that, there are very few hospitals with proper facilities to their patients, by which they have to suffer a lot. For instance, facilities for treatment of Cancer, and Prostate as there are lessen hospitals available. Sports clubs may encourage youth to pursue physical activities which may not only improve their health system, but also give direction to choose their career pathways. Consequently, regular exercise can alleviate many diseases at a time.

To conclude, although heritage edifices are necessary to preserve for the next age group. However, brand new properties are vital to meet the needs of the society, especially in modern times. I, personally believe there should be a balanced approach for better outcomes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the importance of history, the explanation could be more detailed. Similarly, the argument for new buildings focuses heavily on specific medical facilities, which feels slightly narrow for a general discussion on modern infrastructure. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on brief examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis is the primary area for improvement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'To conclude' effectively. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'As, these structures helps' and 'by which they have to suffer a lot.' Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences flow more naturally into one another will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renovated,' 'contemporary,' and 'alleviate.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your writing. For example, 'immense money incurred' is not a natural collocation, and 'lessen hospitals' is grammatically incorrect. You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the control is inconsistent. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and ensure that you are using words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'historic buildings holds,' 'structures helps') and article usage. Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'history and culture of that particular place is get preserved.' These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To move to a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
