Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the modern world, many individual argues that government authorities should restore our old public building such as art galleries and city halls rather constructing new buildings. Although there are few plus and minus points of this, I believe its meritorious side surpass other and this essay explains both with examples to justify it.
The predominant reason of choosing reinstallation of old building as it is comparatively is more time saving . To elucidate, the renovation projects typically take less time than demolishing an existing structure and building a new one from the ground up. Additionally, it doesnot entirely close the public assess, allowing communities to continue using them during the renovation process. For instance, many historical museums in Europe remain partially open to visitors while undergoing restoration, ensuring minimal disruption to the public.
On the other hand, demolishing old building to construct new considerably requires more public funds. To be more clear, the cost of demolition, site preparation, and new construction is significantly higher than renovation. This financial burden ultimately falls on taxpayers, who may question the necessity of such expenditure Additionally, restoring old buildings ensures that their cultural and historical significance is preserved for future generations. To explain, these structures often represent the architectural heritage and identity of a city or nation. Once demolished, this unique character is lost forever.
In conclusion, although some people argue that demolishing old buildings and constructing new ones is necessary for modernisation, I firmly believe that restoration is the more prudent approach. It preserves cultural heritage, saves public funds, and maintains community identity. Therefore, governments should prioritise restoration over new construction wherever feasible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the restoration of old buildings and the construction of new ones, while clearly stating a position in favor of restoration. The ideas are relevant and supported by logical reasoning, such as the cost-effectiveness of renovation and the preservation of cultural heritage. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument regarding 'time-saving' is a bit thin, and the essay could have been strengthened by providing more specific, nuanced examples beyond a general mention of European museums. Overall, the position is consistent and the task requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To elucidate,' 'Additionally,' and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the opening sentence ('many individual argues'). Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the development of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'architectural heritage,' 'renovation projects,' and 'expenditure.' There are, however, some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reinstallation of old building' (restoration) and 'public assess' (access). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('many individual argues') and missing articles ('restore our old public building'). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are occasional slips, such as the missing space after a period in the second paragraph. The control of grammar is sufficient to maintain clarity, but the frequency of minor errors suggests that the student has not yet achieved the level of accuracy required for a higher band.
