Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days individuals again started taking interest in ancient history and buildings. Some individuals opine that these buildings are the symbol of ancient civilization,we need to preserve it,no matter what the costs are but oppositions believe that officials should have to substitute them with commercial buildings.

On the one hand, I am in the side of preserving ancient building for future generations. First and foremost reason is that, these are the source of information. To elaborate it, these gives us the information about our history, cultures, traditions and customs. As a result, our upcoming generations will not get deprived of information. Secondly, these are best attractions of our nation.Due to it ,most of the visitors come to our country and spend money on living ,food and souvenirs, which generates the income for our country, boost the economy of our nation. Finally, these historic buildings have unique designs and traditional craftsmanship that never can be seen on the other buildings. For example, the Taj Mahal is the only place in India, nobody else can copy them and build the same structure.so,it’s a unique identity of our nation.

On the other hand, to maintain these buildings, the costs are very high to changing the roof, plumbing and electrical system.so, instead of wasting that money on them officials should have to build new schools, parks and hospitals, which is the necessity of today’s world.Another is that, these days we can see the more storms, earthquakes that are the reason to vanish them totally. That’s why ,it is totally a loss of money to maintain these buildings.

In conclusion, according to my perspective, these buildings plays important role in our nations in terms of economic, political and social but the other factors cannot be denied too such as high risk of demolition of buildings in case of changes in environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the arguments for preservation are well-supported with examples like the Taj Mahal, the counter-argument regarding the cost of maintenance and environmental risks is less developed and lacks specific examples. The conclusion is a bit weak, as it does not clearly restate your position or summarize the main points effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are given equal weight and that your own opinion is clearly articulated and consistently maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'First and foremost', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'Another is that' which lacks a clear noun reference. Additionally, punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'civilization,we', 'country ,most'), disrupt the flow of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring correct punctuation will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'ancient civilization', 'craftsmanship', and 'demolition'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'oppositions' instead of 'opponents' and 'in the side of' instead of 'on the side of'. The range is sufficient but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('these buildings plays', 'these gives us') and incorrect article usage. There are also consistent issues with spacing after punctuation marks, which makes the text look untidy. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for punctuation errors. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you move into the higher bands.
