Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, technology is growing rapidly. Day by day, new innovations are happening each corners of the world. Some people argue that, old buildings like town halls, and art galleries should be restored no matter how much it cost. But some others believe the governments should replace them with new modern buildings. I partially agree with both the statements.
To begin with, restoring old buildings for the future generation is a good thought. It will be helpful for the next generation to get an understanding about the lifestyle of the old generation. The older buildings resembles the history of that place. For instance, Taj Mahal which is one of the seven wonders of the world held an amazing history behind it. The governments are funding unlimitedly to maintain its prosperity and appearance because of its historic values. Such buildings are necessary to show our identity to others.
Furthermore, art galleries are really important to inspire our younger generations. It should be restored. It enhance their caliber and interest in learning history. The art gallery of missile man of India, is very popular. It gives more knowledge about the second world war and help the students to understand visually.
However, because of the limitation for the availability of land and expensive maintenance cost restoring old buildings are not possible for all countries. For example, the under developed countries like Saudi Arabia, and Japan are not willing to keep their old buildings as their identity, and instead they build modern buildings. They find is more affordable and cost effective.
In conclusion, some of the old buildings and art galleries should be restored for the next generation to learn about the history and other buildings which does not carry any importance must be replaced with modern buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the arguments for restoration are supported by examples like the Taj Mahal, the counter-argument regarding modern buildings is less convincing, particularly the inaccurate claim that Japan and Saudi Arabia are 'under developed countries'. This factual error weakens the supporting evidence. The position is clear, but the depth of analysis could be improved by exploring the economic or cultural nuances of the debate more thoroughly rather than relying on generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical transitions. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be more seamless. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the arguments would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'prosperity', 'caliber', and 'cost-effective'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'happening each corners' (should be 'happening in every corner') and 'held an amazing history' (should be 'has an amazing history'). The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of more sophisticated, precise academic vocabulary keeps the score in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The older buildings resembles') and incorrect preposition usage ('limitation for the availability'). Punctuation is mostly functional, but there are minor errors in comma placement. While the writer attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent, leading to errors that, while not impeding communication, prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
