Student answer (Band 7.0)
Old buildings and Art galleries preserve the history and culture of the civilizations for decades. Some individuals argued that town halls, art galleries, and historical buildings can be restored for the younger generation. Others believe that this infrastructure should be renewed rather than restored. This essay will discuss both perspectives in the upcoming paragraphs.
Firstly, the restoration of historical buildings and art galleries is necessary to make the younger generation aware of their ancestors and the past incidents that reshaped their present. Also, tourism can be enhanced using these ancient galleries and buildings as tourist attractions. This can result in a significant financial source for the country. For example, the Taj Mahal is a popular tourist destination for visitors, which contributes to the economic growth of India. Moreover, old paintings and sculptures are valuable historical records that need to be conserved. Consequently, future generations can learn from this artwork.
On the other hand, these old buildings can be replaced with hospitals, educational institutions, and residential areas, which are the basic needs of a growing population. Additionally, buildings should be equipped with the latest technology such as smart lifts, a voice recognition system, and automatic sprinkler activation to cope with fire hazards. Additionally, transportation and road infrastructure should be developed over time to fulfill the needs of the public.
In my opinion, the government should work simultaneously on both requirements. The renovation of historical buildings and art galleries is equally important as constructing modern buildings. Old buildings that have been abandoned for years can be utilized as hospitals after restoration, which can be cost-effective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the restoration of old buildings and the argument for modern replacements. A clear position is established in the conclusion, where you advocate for a balanced approach. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the Taj Mahal. However, the development of the argument could be more nuanced; for instance, the suggestion to turn abandoned buildings into hospitals is a creative point, but it could be expanded to explain how this addresses the 'costly' nature of restoration mentioned in the prompt. Overall, the task is well-covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the overall progression. The referencing is clear, and the structure supports the development of your ideas effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'civilizations', 'conserved', and 'cost-effective'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. However, there are minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'past incidents that reshaped their present' (a bit awkward) and 'significant financial source' (better phrased as 'source of revenue'). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, though it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and most sentences are error-free. You successfully use complex structures, such as 'Old buildings that have been abandoned for years can be utilized as hospitals'. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'Some individuals argued' (should be 'argue' for a general statement) and 'is equally important as' (should be 'as important as'). These errors do not impede communication, and the punctuation is generally accurate throughout the text.
