Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people argue that the government should invest money in restoring the old buildings even if it is expensive, however others believe that authorities should reconstruct them into new modern style buildings. I partially agree with this view, because it is crucial to conserve some buildings due to historical value, and architecture.
To commence, there are significant benefits of restoring town halls and art galleries. The most prominent one is that a few buildings hold historical value and that helps in bringing the most tourists into the country. To explain, there are buildings that have unique architecture and have some history that can educate the young ones about the history of the country. Repairing them can be expensive for the authorities but it may bring more visitors that will help in the boost of the economy. Therefore, tourists will spend money on hotels and food while visiting such places that will help in recovering the large sum spent on restoring the old buildings.
On the other hand, replacing an old building with new infrastructure can help in reducing the demand for new housing. To clarify, old buildings can be destroyed and replaced with new high rise buildings which can help to accommodate the citizens of the nation. Because of this, there will be less impact on the environment as the government will not create more concrete land by destroying the forest and vegetation in the rural areas. As a result, the government can invest in replacing the old buildings with modern buildings which will ultimately help the people and the environment.
In conclusion, although some old buildings hold a certain value and those can be restored to bring more tourists, some of them can be replaced because that will be contribute to reduce the demand of housing. In my opinion, it will be great for the government and the people if they can investigate before replacing any buildings as some might provide them with the economic development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the economic benefits of tourism for restoration and the environmental benefits of urban densification for replacement. However, the position could be more consistently maintained; while you state you 'partially agree' in the introduction, the conclusion is slightly vague, suggesting the government should 'investigate' rather than taking a firm stance. To reach a higher band, ensure your opinion is clearly articulated and consistently supported throughout the entire essay, including the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'To commence', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, some connections are slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'that will be contribute to reduce' in the conclusion contains a grammatical error that disrupts the flow. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the structure supports the development of your argument effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'accommodate', and 'historical value' appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'reconstruct them into new modern style buildings' (where 'redevelop' or 'replace' would be more natural) and 'boost of the economy' (which should be 'boost to the economy'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the range is sufficient rather than wide. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, 'that will be contribute to reduce' is incorrect; it should be 'that will contribute to reducing'. Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in the boost of the economy'. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the reader can follow your argument without difficulty. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
