Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this contemporary world, buildings are playing very crucial role to make cities look beautiful. There is an on going debate between two groups of people whether to spend a huge amount of money to renovate heritage structures such as architectural museums and town halls or an advanced buildings should take place of old structures. Both the views are discussed further before giving my viewpoint.
On the one hand, supporters of the former view claim that even though it is costly, historic buildings should be renovated. Because they believe that it leads to the allure of tourism. To elaborate, the public can have the urge to experience old-fashioned materialistic things such as clothes, instruments and tools alongside taking photographs as a memory over there. For instance, a case in point is Royal Museum in India, which attracts almost 50,000 tourists every month. Therefore, a great profit can be made; individuals can learn their history and get tied to their roots by having a great visit in these places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 168 words. This significantly impacts the development of the response. While you introduce the topic and discuss the first viewpoint, you have not addressed the second viewpoint (replacing old buildings with modern ones) nor have you provided your own opinion as requested by the prompt. The task is only partially addressed, and the lack of length prevents a full discussion of the ideas. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are covered and provide a balanced discussion followed by a clear personal stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows a basic attempt at organization with an introduction and a body paragraph. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'For instance' to link ideas. However, because the essay is incomplete and lacks a conclusion or a second body paragraph, the overall progression is stunted. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the logical flow is interrupted by the abrupt ending of the text. To improve, ensure you have a clear structure: introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each view), and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary world', 'heritage structures', and 'allure of tourism'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'materialistic things' to describe historical artifacts, which is not quite accurate in this context. There is also a minor error in 'an advanced buildings should take place', where the article 'an' is incorrectly used with a plural noun. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'buildings are playing very crucial role' (missing article 'a') and 'an advanced buildings should take place' (subject-verb agreement/article error). Additionally, 'Because they believe that it leads to...' is a sentence fragment as it starts with a subordinating conjunction without an independent clause. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
