Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an argument on the fact that government should allocate more money for building modern skyscrappers instead of for restoring historical buildings and art galleries. I firmly accord with the latter view and will discuss my opinions in the impending paragraphs.

The history of a country is represented from its antique architectural buildings and art and crafts. Although, the restoration of old historic structure is quite expensive but these provides great revenue for the country such as increase in tourism industry. for instance, in most developing countries such as India, the tourism industry generates many job opportunities for the locals as it culture is presented through the historical building which eventually attracts foreign tourists who wants to experience the same.

However, instead of spendv

However, replacing old art galleries into modern structure buildings will aid in the development of nation. The increase in population especially in metropolitan cities causes problems such as house crisis which eventually makes the city life unaffordable for

many people. To curb these issues, government should money in building apartments, malls, libraries all equipped with the modern amenities which will add comfort in life of local residents.

To firmly believe that the upcoming generation will remain rooted to their history through the by visiting the historical buildings and monuments as one can easily remember the things that they have seen instedd of reading. for instance, schools arrange trips to ancient places to make students more knowledgeable about their historical past.

To conclude, it can be said that completely ignoring monuments and historical structures is not a valuable decision for the development of nation. Instead, government bodies can spend some money to reconstruct these buildings by keeping its real value and structure intact.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the benefits of restoration are supported with an example regarding tourism in India, the argument for modern buildings is less focused, jumping between housing crises and general amenities. Furthermore, the student's position is contradictory; the introduction states they 'accord with the latter view' (replacing buildings), but the subsequent paragraphs and conclusion argue strongly for preservation. This inconsistency in maintaining a clear position throughout the essay limits the score. The ideas are relevant but require more logical extension to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'However, instead of spendv' is incomplete and disruptive. Additionally, the use of 'To firmly believe' at the start of the fourth paragraph is grammatically incorrect and does not function as a proper cohesive link. While the overall structure is coherent, the frequent errors in linking phrases and the abrupt start to the second paragraph hinder the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'skyscrappers' (spelling error), 'antique architectural buildings', and 'house crisis' (should be 'housing crisis'). The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'restoration' and 'amenities', but the overall range is limited. The repetition of basic structures and the presence of spelling errors like 'instedd' and 'spendv' indicate that the student needs to focus on more accurate word usage and proofreading to improve their lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('these provides'), incorrect preposition usage ('represented from'), and fragmented sentences. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters after full stops in the middle of sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to verb forms and sentence boundaries is required.
