Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is significantly off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on the restoration of old buildings versus the construction of new ones. However, the essay discusses the impact of social media on personal relationships. Because the task was not addressed, the response fails to meet the requirements of the prompt. Additionally, the word count is below the 250-word minimum, which further impacts the score. To improve, you must carefully read the prompt and ensure your arguments directly address the specific question asked rather than writing a pre-memorized or unrelated essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion'. However, because the content is irrelevant to the prompt, the logical progression of ideas is severely compromised. The transitions between sentences are often mechanical, and the overall structure does not support a coherent argument related to the task. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph develops a clear point that directly supports your thesis statement regarding the prompt's topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'hustle bustle living' and 'maintaining strong bond of relationship' are used, but there is a lack of precision and variety. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'turning more dependency' instead of 'becoming more dependent'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss complex topics effectively. To improve, aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary, ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for the context of the discussion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'makes them more closer' (incorrect comparative structure) and 'I my mind' (preposition error). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and awkward phrasing throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors such as incorrect prepositions, redundant comparatives, and subject-verb agreement. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy is essential for higher bands.
