Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is widely argued that public authorities should allocate more money to preserving old building instead of replacing them with modern buildings. Although, modern buildings can contribute to economic growth, I believed that we should be preserved the old building as it represents the country's culture and history.
Some people believe that the government should be replaced these old buildings with the modern as it will promote the economic growth. New building such as hotels, apartments, and cooperate building can improved the infrastructure. In addition, It will increase the employment rate. For instance, In India, construction workers have surged due to development of new buildings.
On the other hand, the primary reason why I support the view of preserving the old building is that they are indication of country's identity. It represents the cultural and historical values. Although maintaining these building costs tremendous amount of money, it can be covered through tourism. In addition, the next generation can able to experience the visit. For instance, parliament house in Victoria is open to all tourism and it is popular attraction. people across the world have chance to explore the place and experience the different culture. It helps to broaden one's horizon. therefore, it is evident that it is important to preserve the building so that every generation could explore the culture and historical heritage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, the conclusion is incomplete, consisting only of the word 'To conclude,'. This failure to finish the essay prevents a full development of the argument. To improve, ensure you expand on your examples and provide a full summary of your main points in the conclusion to meet the length requirement and provide a balanced discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used to link sentences. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the abrupt ending of the essay negatively impacts the overall flow and structure. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the essay feel unfinished, which hinders the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas about infrastructure and cultural heritage. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'allocate', 'infrastructure', and 'heritage'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'cooperate building' (likely meaning 'corporate') and 'can able to' (a redundant structure). The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but more precision and variety are needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'we should be preserved the old building' (passive voice error), 'government should be replaced' (incorrect verb form), and 'next generation can able to' (incorrect modal usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of verb tenses and passive constructions.
