Student answer (Band 6.0)

From the recent years, the debate about restorating the old infrastructures, like town halls and art galleries should be carried out, despite it's heavy cost. Whereas, many believe that the development of new modern buildings should be constructed. I believe that reatining the ancient building is a key part, which helps in remembering our history.

Firstly, in accordance to the increase in population, the government is focusing more in building more residential areas for people to live comfrotably. Also constructing modern buildings attracts the people all around the world. This helps the country by increasing the economy in tourism. Additionally, benefits like lavish lifestyle, modern sky lines of city, developed companies and factories plays a vital role in the rise of a country's GDP. Although, these benefits are crucial and can be carried out sidewise, the importance of ancient history and arts is utmost important.

Secondly, the importance of town hall, art galleries and other old buildings holds a big role in the society. However, the cost of maintaining such infrasturcture could be more than assumed, but it is also necessary to pay attention to this. Old buildings like town halls and art galleries holds old practices like how people used to be in the past, how they lived life, the way they convey different mindful ideas through arts and many more signifcant things. To cite an example, people nowadays are more interested in visiting old forts in order to know more about how the ancinet king used to live.

To conclude, even though the maintainence of such old buildings is expensive, they should be contructed more. As it helps the people of the country to be in touch with their history.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The arguments for modern buildings are listed rather than fully explained, and the discussion on restoration relies on general statements rather than specific, well-supported examples. The term 'restorating' is incorrect, and the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, which you have done, but the depth of analysis is limited. To improve, ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by a detailed explanation and a concrete example to support your point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions are used incorrectly or sound unnatural, such as 'From the recent years' and 'Whereas, many believe'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your cohesive devices connect ideas logically rather than just acting as mechanical signposts.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several errors in word choice and word formation that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'restorating' should be 'restoring', 'reatining' should be 'retaining', and 'infrasturcture' is misspelled. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'GDP', 'tourism', and 'residential areas', but the overall control is inconsistent. To improve, focus on learning the correct forms of words and common collocations, and proofread your work to catch simple spelling errors that detract from your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'art galleries holds'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'focusing more in building'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the importance of town hall... holds a big role'). While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You should work on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction before attempting more complex structures to ensure your writing is more accurate.
