Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this generation few people believe that old monuments such as town halls and art galleries should be renovated though it is costly however other argue that governments should exchange them with new buildings.
Fristly, those who believe that the governments should repair the old monuments which is costly but it is more better than building the new once which is more costly than renovating. Which is basically right and when the old structure are renovated it gives the vibe of the old onces which the new once can't give to the people which will come there to see the old things .
Secondly, those who argue that governments should build new modern buildings by replacing with the old monuments. Which is also a good thing because it will be more stable and strong than the older building while it can cost more than renovating.
The main reason that I agree with the people who think that renovating and restoring is good rather than build new which is more costly and also remove the felling and the vibes which the old monuments can give us .
Likely to the old structure named dharara in Nepal which was destroy in the biggest earthquick in Nepal history . They made a new one similar to the old and nowadays many people visit to the new one to which didn't give the felling like the old one .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. The arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth; for instance, the point about 'vibes' is mentioned multiple times without sufficient elaboration or academic justification. The example of the Dharara tower is relevant but could have been better integrated to support the argument more effectively. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'Fristly' (a spelling error) or 'Which is basically right'. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Conversely', 'In light of this') to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'good', 'new', and 'old'. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'exchange them with new buildings' instead of 'replace them', and 'remove the felling' instead of 'diminish the historical significance'. Spelling errors, such as 'Fristly', 'onces', and 'earthurick', are frequent and occasionally impede the flow of the text. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary and focus on using words that are appropriate for an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'old structure are renovated'), incorrect word forms, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Which is also a good thing'). There is very little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is often inconsistent. To improve, you should practice constructing more complex sentences using relative clauses and subordinating conjunctions, while paying closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common errors.
