Student answer (Band 6.0)

Buildings often hold a great value in our history, that is why some people argue that old historical buildings need to be restored, while others state that government should replace them with newer ones. Although modern buildings have their own importance, old ones depict history through its architecture as per my opinion.

People who support that modern buildings have more value have their own points that can not be ignored. Firstly, new buildings will be designed according to the modern technology, which will aids in better management of projects in a office or workplace . for instance in build attendance software can be installed which will mark present on the basis of biometrics. This will save a lot of time and money as there will be no need to save a lot of papers for attendance. along with this, these buildings will serve that purpose of better natural and ventilation . That is why some people consider that modern buildings will provide more facilities.

Individuals who think that old buildings are important so they need to be rescued, although the process will be costly has their own reasons . the primary reason is maintainence of history through the forts built by emperors. this is help in interactive learning for students as well as adults, as practical knowledge is more interesting as compared to the theoretical one. people will understand the value of such buildings after the visit, and it will also help in understanding of major useful methods used at that time by the builders. that is why, it is necessary to restore them.

To conclude, I would like to re-iterate, nevertheless newer buildings have more benefits, it is crucial to restore old forts to represent the history and its moments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the argument for modern buildings is supported by an example regarding office technology, the discussion on old buildings relies on general statements about 'forts' and 'emperors' without fully exploring the broader concept of town halls or art galleries mentioned in the prompt. The ideas are relevant but could be extended with more depth to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'along with this', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. There are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal structure of sentences occasionally lacks flow due to punctuation errors and awkward phrasing, which slightly hinders the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'buildings' and 'modern'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'biometrics' and 'theoretical', there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'maintainence of history' instead of 'preservation of history' and 'rescued' instead of 'restored' or 'preserved'. These errors do not impede communication but demonstrate a limited range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'People who support... have their own points', 'the process will be costly has their own reasons'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors, particularly with comma placement and spacing. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading is needed.
