Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people believe that historic structures such as town halls and art galleries should be rebuilt, apart from there costing. Some are of the view that the government should take responsibility for replacing them with new ones. This essay discusses some considerable advantages and disadvantages of supporting both views.

I commence by saying that tradition building should be restructured to promote our cultural heritage, which serves as the main means to transmit our history and values to the upcoming generation. More specifically, it adds to the beauty and prestige of the nation to which we belong. Nowadays, many countries hold cultural festivals to showcase their tradition and spread awareness among their people about their heritage .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits your ability to develop your ideas. While you introduce the topic and mention both views, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. Because you have not provided a full discussion or a clear conclusion, the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words, allowing space to fully explore both perspectives and provide a coherent, well-supported opinion. Currently, the lack of development prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and a body paragraph. However, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to judge the overall progression or the effectiveness of your paragraphing. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'More specifically,' but the limited length prevents the use of a wider range of linking words or a clear, logical flow. To improve, focus on structuring your essay with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs for the opposing views, and a concluding summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with phrases like 'cultural heritage' and 'showcase their tradition' used correctly. However, there are some awkward word choices, such as 'tradition building' (which should be 'traditional buildings') and 'apart from there costing' (which is grammatically unclear). The range of vocabulary is limited by the short length of the text. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure your collocations are natural. Focus on using words that accurately convey your meaning without awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are noticeable errors that affect clarity. For example, 'apart from there costing' is grammatically incorrect, and 'tradition building should be restructured' uses the wrong word form. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete nature of the final sentence makes it difficult to assess your control over complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and using correct word forms (e.g., 'traditional' instead of 'tradition'). Ensure your sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
