Student answer (Band 7.0)
There is an going debate whether old buildings such as town halls and art museums should be repaired by spending excessive funds or authorities should decide to alter them with upgraded premises. Although the proponents of constructing modern buildings contend that it can provide updated information and resources for people to learn, I am inclined to opine that restoring ancient structures is a great way to preserve local heritage and save economy.
Supporting my idea of repairing historical structures, one of the main reasons is keeping people connected with their history, tradition and cultures. When traditional buildings are repaired by spending public funds it preserve the local heritage that current as well as future generation can experience rather than learning in the history books or finding data in libraries or from online sources, People can stay connected to their cultures when they see historical buildings around. In addition to this, it influences numerous visitors from different countries to visit these places to learn about their history or capture some photographs either for their research projects or keeping records for future generation which in return helps community to get more job opportunities, allows profits to local businesses by increasing sales. For instance, Agra Fort in Delhi, India is considered as major attraction due to its historical structure. People from various countries are visiting there which helps local community to foster their economy by providing accommodation, food and hospitality service, and tour guide for other famous destinations in the city.
On the contrary, skeptics affirm that authorities should consider replacing old buildings to modern structures because current generation is particularly interested to learn through modern devices. It is necessary for the young generation to understand in a pragmatic way so that they can utilize that information to succeed in their academic subjects such as history and geography. To illustrate, Science City in Jalandhar should be replaced with modern resources such as 3D animation, practical labs to experience projects in real life as it creates a significant effect on their learning.
To conclude, it can be said that by spending some public funds governments can save the heritage of communities which positively help to foster their economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting both views and a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, particularly the argument regarding cultural heritage and economic benefits. However, the development of the opposing view is slightly less balanced; the example of 'Science City' is somewhat confusing as it relates to a specific facility rather than the general concept of replacing old buildings with modern ones. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-argument is as thoroughly explored as your own position, and avoid minor generalizations in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the introduction, the two main body arguments, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'On the contrary', and 'To illustrate' are used appropriately to link ideas. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly abrupt transition between the discussion of heritage and the economic impact. Overall, the structure is coherent, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for the expression of ideas with reasonable precision. You have used some topic-specific vocabulary like 'local heritage', 'public funds', and 'pragmatic way'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'save economy' (should be 'boost the economy') and 'alter them with upgraded premises' (which sounds slightly unnatural). While the range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions would help elevate the score to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'Although the proponents... I am inclined to opine...'. However, there are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'it preserve the local heritage' instead of 'it preserves') and article usage errors (e.g., 'save economy' instead of 'save the economy'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb forms.
