Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals argue that old buildings ought to be rebuilt despite being expensive. Others claim they should be replaced with the latest buildings by the authorities. This essay will discuss both views and my opinion on the matter.
On the one hand, arguing to restore older infrastructure can stem from the idea of being connected to the historical monuments. Furthermore, a significant number of people believe that getting rid of older buildings can lead to the destruction of remarkable infrastructure, which is a major tourist attraction around the world. For instance, demolishing the famous Eiffel Tower will not only erase the iconic history behind it but will also impact the country's economy due to drastic changes in tourism.
On the other hand, claiming to replace older buildings with modern ones by the government can turn into something more acceptable among all age groups. For example, younger generations are more inclined towards new architecture rather than dwelling on traditional spots.
In my opinion, one can enjoy the beauty of ancient architects while also appreciating a change in the overall structure of regular construction.
In conclusion, despite being a costly investment, some people want ancient architecture to be preserved, such as art galleries and town halls, in orgto stay connected to their roots. While others believe that having a modern infrastructure can be more inclusive for every generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, but the development is insufficient. The essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the arguments. While the points regarding historical preservation and modern inclusivity are relevant, they are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence or detailed explanation. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, you must expand on your ideas with more detailed examples and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for a comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat limited due to the brevity of the response. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the connection between the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion could be more fluid. Improving the use of a wider range of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, well-developed topic sentence would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'infrastructure,' 'monuments,' and 'architecture.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'arguing to restore' or 'claiming to replace.' There is also a minor spelling error ('orgto'). To reach a higher band, focus on incorporating more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary, while ensuring that your word choices are consistently natural and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally understandable, there are some awkward constructions, such as 'claiming to replace older buildings... can turn into something more acceptable.' There are also minor punctuation and phrasing issues throughout. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but the lack of more sophisticated grammatical structures limits your score. To improve, try to incorporate a greater variety of complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, while maintaining strict control over your punctuation and syntax.
