Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary world, development of modern buildings or restoring the old one has sparked a fresh debate. Few people are in favour of replacing old monuments into modern infrastructure. Others believe restoring them even at high cost, highlights the city's rich history. Personally, I opine restoration outlines the modern look.

To begin with, preserving vintage infrastructure can be converted into a tourist destination. At first it might look expensive project as to restore town halls, museum & other facilities includes a top notch planning with a massive budget. For Instance, Somnath Temple in India is a pilgrim location for devotees, to restore the site-government issued a major fund through various schemes including donations from all over the nation. Moreover, proper maintenance is needed to keep it tidy for tourism.

On the other hand, newly build infrastructure can turn out to be cheaper and construction can be done in less time. Also, modernization has made people feel comfortable without any hustle in certain manners. To exemplify, Motera Cricket Stadium was the first cricket stadium in India, is demolished by government to make a brand new stadium with advanced facilities. Now, it is known as Narendra Modi Stadium (named after current Indian Prime Minister). Additionally, it is the largest cricket stadium in the world considering the sitting attendance.

In Summary, without a doubt modern infrastructure outlines vintage places in terms of economy, maintenance and preferences. However, to preserve the city culture and its ancient belongings, it is highly recommended to restore the sites and I'm also in the favour of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the example of the Somnath Temple is relevant, the explanation of why restoration is preferred is slightly underdeveloped. The conclusion is a bit contradictory; you state that modern infrastructure 'outlines' (likely meaning 'outperforms') vintage places, but then immediately state you are in favour of restoration. This creates a slight confusion regarding your final stance. To improve, ensure your supporting arguments are more thoroughly explained and that your position remains consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In Summary' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more precise. For example, the sentence 'At first it might look expensive project as to restore town halls...' lacks a clear subject and flows awkwardly. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected would help elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'infrastructure', 'monuments', and 'modernization'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For instance, 'replacing old monuments into modern infrastructure' is imprecise; 'replacing... with' would be more natural. Similarly, 'outlines the modern look' is not the correct usage of 'outline' in this context. There are also minor errors such as 'newly build' (should be 'newly built') and 'hustle' (likely meant 'hassle'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'restoring the old one' (should be 'ones'), 'expensive project as to restore' (should be 'an expensive project to restore'), and 'is demolished by government' (should be 'was demolished'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and ampersands. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs.
