Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the arguments for restoration are supported by an example, the explanation regarding modern construction is slightly repetitive and lacks depth in terms of specific benefits beyond space efficiency. The introduction is a bit disjointed, and the conclusion contains some minor repetition of phrases. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a more balanced and nuanced exploration of the topic, and avoid repeating the same points within the same paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'Consequently', though some are used mechanically or with minor grammatical errors (e.g., 'dispite of'). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation issues. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used with greater precision would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, 'architural' (architectural), 'onaware' (unaware), and 'ration' (renovation) are noticeable errors. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'heritage', 'renovation', and 'technological advancements', the misuse of basic collocations and spelling mistakes limits the score. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Every place have it history'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'in the favour of'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences being fragmented or run-on. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
