Student answer (Band 6.5)

Old buildings are the heritage of one individual place. Indeed they are integral part of any location as they carry significant amount of culture value and historical essence of indiviual place. Some people stipulate that such old buildings like, town halls and art galleries should be restored to maintain the legacy of the place. However, some others believe that they should be replace by government for creating brand new infrastructure. I would like to discuss both views before giving my personal opinion in the henceforth paragraphs.

To start with, the old buildings carry history of individual place. For example, palaces of the Rajasthan have their own unique value, they show rich culture and heritage of Rajasthan. The exquiste engravings and carvings on the walls make them eye appealing. Government of india have made a lot of efforts to keep them in intact position. Many visitors now visit them and enjoy the beauty and elegance of authentic rajasthani culture. Those palaces demonstrate the lifestyles of various different communities, preserved paintings on the walls illustrate the past lives of many people. In contemporary times, government is generating notable amount of revenue from palace visitors.

Additionally, local people's sentiments are associated with those old sites, rather than doing complete demolition work, if government can they should pay extreme focus on keeping site in intact position. Government also can raise funds from local people for restoration work.

In contrast, some sites have environmental damage over long time period of negligence. Brining them back to original position is sometimes impossible for government, in such scenario goverment should allow complete replacement for betterment of local people. For instance, government can use those old sites for building new shopping malls which can fulfill occupation needs of many locals, schools for education purpose or banks for trades and exchange. Which can aid local people at great extent.

In my opinion, if any given old site is not in the condition of any repairings, only then they should use to make new buildings as it has utmost importance in eyes of many civilians. Restoring them completely can hurt their feelings also, it can increase riots and violations of laws.

In conclusion, the decision must be in the hands of the government, whether any site should go for complete destruction or restoration. Some scientists should be invited to check the condition of site before making any decision related to the property and general public must be notify before and after making any relevent decision.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historical sites versus the practical benefits of modern infrastructure. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the 'sentiments' of local people is a strong point, but the conclusion introduces a new, slightly tangential idea about involving scientists, which is not fully integrated into the earlier arguments. The position is consistent, though the reasoning in the final paragraph could be more tightly linked to the previous points to ensure a more cohesive argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'To start with', 'Additionally', and 'In contrast', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is a bit unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the final paragraph, which could refer to either the buildings or the scientists. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'exquisite', 'stipulate', and 'contemporary'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'individual place' (instead of 'a specific location'), 'keep them in intact position' (instead of 'keep them intact'), and 'repairings' (which is non-standard). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the range and precision of the language. A more natural use of collocations would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('Government of india', 'the beauty of authentic rajasthani culture'), pluralization, and verb forms ('they should be replace'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some comma splices and missing articles that occur throughout the text. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex ideas, even if the execution is not consistently accurate.
