Student answer (Band 7.0)
This topic of restoring old monuments is a contentious topic in today's contemporary world. This topic comes with both negative and positive impacts on society, and here I will discuss the topic with the justification of both sides and will conclude with some analysis.
On one hand, there is a group of people who justify the restoration of old and historical monuments at any cost. They are of the opinion that some old buildings reflect our great history and always give a sense of remembering the past. Moreover, these sites help our upcoming generation in learning about their ancestors, great inventions, innovations, and the sacrifices they made towards society.
Furthermore, historical monuments, for instance, museums, halls, and city centers, also attract tourists, which directly boosts the country's economy. This also helps the community to stay connected to their roots, which some people are always proud of.
On the other hand, there is an army of people who prefer modern architecture, which reflects luxury. They believe that everything in their surroundings should be upgraded as per the time and century.
They think that old monuments are always a safety hazard to the environment. Their views are, Firstly, services can be provided in a better way if the facility is the latest. Secondly, A modern infrastructure can accommodate a larger number of people. Thirdly, quick service can be provided if the service is upgraded.
To conclude with some analysis and my opinion, I would say monuments such as art galleries, museums, and tourist places should be restored in their old form irrespective of the money it costs. On the other hand, buildings which offer services, for Instance, hospitals and medical centers, should be upgraded to modern standards to provide the best and needed service to the patients.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of tourism and the functional necessity of modern infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the arguments for restoration are well-supported, the points regarding modern architecture are presented as a list of brief, somewhat repetitive claims (e.g., 'services can be provided in a better way' and 'quick service can be provided'). The conclusion successfully synthesizes the two views by suggesting a nuanced approach, which adds depth to the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two opposing viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'To conclude' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some of the internal cohesion within the second body paragraph feels a bit mechanical due to the repetitive use of 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Thirdly.' Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'contentious topic,' 'historical monuments,' and 'modern infrastructure.' However, there is some repetition of basic words, such as 'topic' and 'monuments.' Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'an army of people' to describe a group of people, which is not a standard collocation in this context. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive sentence starters.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor errors, such as 'This topic comes with both negative and positive impacts' (a bit wordy) and 'for Instance' (capitalization error). Punctuation is generally sound, though there are occasional slips. The grammatical control is sufficient to communicate ideas clearly without impeding the reader. To improve, aim to vary your sentence length and structure further, and ensure consistent attention to capitalization and article usage.
