Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 120 words. This failure to meet the length requirement means the task is only partially addressed. The introduction sets up the discussion, but the body paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, preventing the development of ideas or the presentation of a clear, consistent opinion. Because the essay is incomplete, it fails to address all parts of the prompt, resulting in a low score for task achievement. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full, balanced discussion of both views followed by a clear conclusion, while meeting the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows an attempt at logical organization with an introduction and a body paragraph. However, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to judge the overall progression or the effectiveness of paragraphing. Cohesive devices are used in the introduction, such as 'Beyond doubt' and 'In this piece of writing', but the lack of completion limits the coherence of the text. To improve, focus on structuring your essay into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each view), and a conclusion. Ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with attempts at academic phrasing such as 'rejuvenating', 'historic monuments', and 'precedence factor'. However, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'much arguments' (should be 'many arguments') and 'other school of thoughts' (should be 'other schools of thought'). The range is limited due to the brevity of the text. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure subject-verb agreement when using complex noun phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For instance, 'there has been multiple reasons' should be 'there are multiple reasons' (subject-verb agreement), and 'historic buildings supposed to be restored' is missing the auxiliary verb 'are'. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, the frequent errors in basic grammar and tense usage are noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and missing auxiliary verbs before attempting more complex structures.
