Student answer (Band 6.0)

Owing to the modernization, numerous historical buildings are being renovated by private entities or governmental bodies where few experts argue that the ancient buildings, which are town halls and art galleries should be saved, though it can be expensive while some reckon that these buildings should be replaced with modern buildings with the support of political leader. This essay will highlight both perspectives on the basis of some relevant reasons along with my opinion in conclusion.

One of the most prominent reasons is that roots of the culture can be preserved. In other words, emotions of masses are attached with old buildings and it can enhance our knowledge that how people used to manage all tasks and how was their life without technology. For instance, during the partition of Punjab state in India in 1947, there were several pictures clicked and those pictures are still available in historical art galleries and demonstrate the pain of refugees, who left their homes due to partition.

Paradoxically, political leaders should supersede the old buildings with new ones because of safety concerns. To sketch out further, due to old infrastructure, these sites can become hazard for visitors as natural disasters are being faced by these buildings throughout the time such as earthquakes or tsunami. For example, 10 tourists died and 17 were injured while visiting the old town hall in Gujarat because roof had been fallen on them as it was ancient.

To recapitulate, after taking everything into consideration. from my perspective although safety should is the major concern and replacing with modern building could be efficient, sediments and historical influence should be rest

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence cuts off abruptly ('sediments and historical influence should be rest'), which prevents a full development of the position. While the ideas regarding cultural preservation and safety are relevant and supported by examples, the lack of a finished conclusion impacts the overall task completion. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the essay, especially the conclusion, are fully articulated and coherent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In other words,' 'For instance,' and 'Paradoxically,' which help guide the reader. However, the abrupt ending of the essay significantly disrupts the flow and cohesion of the final paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of some transitions could be improved to sound more natural. Improving the consistency of paragraph structure and ensuring a complete, well-rounded conclusion would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'supersede,' 'paradoxically,' and 'modernization.' However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'emotions of masses are attached' (should be 'the emotions of the masses are attached') and 'sediments' (likely a misuse of 'sentiments'). While the meaning is generally clear, these inaccuracies prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise word choices and natural collocations will improve the lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Owing to the modernization' (the article is unnecessary), 'how was their life' (incorrect word order), and 'safety should is the major concern' (double verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would be beneficial.
