Student answer (Band 5.0)

Toady I am talk about two views . Such as few people believe that old buildings are restored even it is costly but others believe that change with new ones. I am also share my own opinion .

Firstly, I think old building is a one way to earn money because people come over there to see it from different places so its help to boost economy of this country .Old building are so beautiful if people spend money on it its life time income source for them because if people come over there they click pics and interest to see so then I collect small amounts of entry fee .

Secondly,Government spend money on new building in few ares because in new building people can live there and enjoy their life style . For example , Dubai spend lots of money on new building and earn money through the building and boost there country without any help .so that is the reasons why government need spend money on new buildings because it effect on country and individual life style so they can enjoy there life style and many more things in it .

According to my opinion, government need spend money on new building so they can improve their country without any help and people living their lifestyle . I think spend money on new building is good then old building because lots of people live there and do many things in new era such as open there business .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development is limited. While you mention the economic benefits of old buildings and the modern lifestyle advantages of new ones, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The introduction is quite informal and repetitive, and the conclusion simply restates your preference without synthesising the points discussed. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and fully explains the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims. The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level, which prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but the transitions between sentences are often abrupt or unclear. For example, the jump from discussing old buildings to the example of Dubai is sudden. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes confusing, such as 'it effect on country', where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer to a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows logically from the previous one will enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic words like 'money', 'building', and 'good'. There are also several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'click pics' (informal), 'interest to see' (grammatically incorrect), and 'new era' (used out of context). To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, including collocations and more precise academic terms related to architecture, urban development, and economics. Avoid informal language and focus on using words that accurately convey your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('old building is', 'government need spend'), missing articles ('boost economy of this country'), and incorrect verb forms ('I am talk', 'I am also share'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Once these are consistent, work on incorporating a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences.
