Student answer (Band 6.0)
Task - 2
In today's era, the evolution of modern architecture has sparked an intense debate regarding renovating old buildings like halls and art galleries or replacing them with new, modern buildings. Through this essays, both the sides will be discussed.
To begin with, in a diverse country like India, the historic reflection of anything is of subtle importance. Therefore, historic monuments like Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar and Red fort are worshipped like holy places. So, many people believe that although these are old buildings, they should be preserved though this can be expensive. This will protect their history and culture. Adding to this, these buildings can help coming generations to have knowledge about their background and ancestors.
On the other hand, some buildings like town halls and art galleries should not be restored. Instead of that, government should spend money on new and modern buildings. To epitomize, as coming generations or Gen-Z's are tech-savvy. So, new and latest technology will attract them rather than some old buildings which are not attractive. Therefore, government should replace old art galleries or libraries with new buildings having latest technology as spending money on old buildings is completely in vain. Even a recent survey shows that 90% of today’s generation have never visited any old art gallery or library .
To conclude, I would say that the buildings which have a reflection of history to be remembered are very crucial to be preserved at any cost. Otherwise, the old buildings which are not attractive nowadays should be replaced with some latest technology buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for preservation relies heavily on examples like the Taj Mahal, which are national monuments rather than the 'town halls and art galleries' specified in the prompt. The counter-argument regarding 'Gen-Z' and technology is relevant but could be more deeply explored. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band, as they rely on generalizations rather than nuanced analysis of the cultural or economic trade-offs involved in building restoration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Through this essays, both the sides will be discussed.' Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is logical, meeting the requirements for a band 6 or 7, though it lacks the sophisticated, unobtrusive cohesion of higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'epitomize,' 'tech-savvy,' and 'evolution,' which show an effort to expand range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'historic reflection of anything is of subtle importance' and 'spending money on old buildings is completely in vain.' These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of the argument. To improve, the student should focus on more natural collocations and precise terminology related to architecture and urban planning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Through this essays' (pluralization error), 'historic reflection of anything is of subtle importance' (awkward phrasing), and 'government should' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and spaces. While the student attempts complex structures, the control is not consistent enough for a higher band. The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message, which is characteristic of a band 6 performance.
