Student answer (Band 6.5)
Writing Tcyk-2.
Some people believe that old buildings should be restored, while others think that goverments should replace them with modern buildings. Both views have some advantages, and I believe that importunt old buildings should be preserved whenever possible.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why old buiding should be restored. Firstly, many old buildings have historical and cultural importance. They can show people how previous generations lived and worked. For example, old town halls and art galleries may represent an important part of a city's history. Secondly, these buildings can attracts tourists. Visitors often enjoy seeing traditional architecture and learning about the history of a place. This can also provide inccome for local businesses such as rarestuants, hotel anel shops.
On the other hand, some people believe that old buildings should be replaced with modern ones. One reason is that repairing very old buildings can be extremely expensive. Govermments
may need to spend a large amount of money on maintunance and renovation. This money could instead be used to build hospitals, schools or other important facilities. In addition, some old buidlings are not suitable for modern needs because they may have limited space, poor facitres or safetly problems. New buildings can provide better technolagy, energy efficiency and comfortable facilities.
In my opinion, government should not destory all old buidings simply because modern buildings are more convenient. Buildings that have significonet historical or cultural value should be retorsed and protected. However old buiding that are unsafe or have little historical importance can be replaced by modern ones.
In conclusion, although modern buildings can be more practical and less expensive to maintain, old buildings are valuable becise they presrue history and culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the discussion on historical value versus the practical benefits of modern infrastructure. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific examples beyond general references to 'town halls' or 'hospitals' to further develop the arguments. However, the response is well-balanced and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'historical and cultural importance', 'renovation', and 'energy efficiency'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'goverments', 'importunt', 'inccome', 'rarestuants', 'maintunance', 'buidlings', 'facitres', 'safetly', 'technolagy', 'significonet', 'retorsed', and 'presrue'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Improving proofreading skills to catch these slips would significantly enhance the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'Although modern buildings can be more practical... old buildings are valuable'. However, there are persistent grammatical errors, particularly with pluralization ('old buiding', 'some old buidlings') and minor punctuation or article usage. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the grammar does not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent pluralization.
