Student answer (Band 6.5)
Even though, a certain amount of individuals think that the government should replace historic landmarks such as town halls and art houses, with new buildings, my sentiment is similar to the others that believe that these buildings must be restored.
A part of the society wants to demolish these local attractions and change them according to modern urbanization needs. This is purely due to the inadequate land distribution and growing population of the nation. A new construction could mean anything such as schools and offices, but at what cost? Compromising local history combined with rich heritage and roots for a standard working environment is never healthy. For instance, One of the art museums in my street, was almost about to be destroyed by my state government to incorporate modern business. However, it was cancelled due to the realization of the public as to how much cultural and traditional values were being reflected through the museum.
On the other hand, a specific portion of people truly believe that these monumental structures need to be revived. This is not only because of the fact that it speaks about rich historic value and local recreation, but also that it closely resembles the bond we share with our ancestors. Town halls are a symbol of hope and union. The uniqueness and beauty of art galleries are meant to be enjoyed to the best by our generation and also by the future. There is a town hall right by my house and at least once every week, all families in my community gather there to exchange news and information. This made us all feel happy and pleasant.
Based on my thoughts and opinions, I strongly believe in the idea of recreating these old and traditional edifices, that impart a high amount of knowledge and culture for generations to come.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of urbanization needs versus cultural heritage. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'inadequate land distribution' is introduced but not fully explored in terms of the economic benefits of new buildings. Similarly, the personal examples are clear but could be more effectively linked to the broader societal implications of the debate. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or broader context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For instance,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the opening sentence is a bit clunky with the phrase 'Even though, a certain amount of individuals.' Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'urbanization,' 'monumental structures,' and 'edifices.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'art houses' is not the standard term for art galleries, and 'realization of the public' is slightly unnatural; 'public awareness' or 'public recognition' would be more precise. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but more precise and varied vocabulary would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor errors in punctuation and grammar. For instance, the comma after 'Even though' is unnecessary, and there is an incorrect comma after 'street' in the second paragraph. Additionally, 'a certain amount of individuals' should be 'a certain number of individuals' as 'individuals' is a countable noun. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the writer shows a good attempt at using complex structures.
