Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, historic buildings are considered as a boon to the current societal landscape. Owing to this, it is a common phenomenon witnessed among diverse population that art galleries and town halls should be restored even though it would be extravagant. Whilst, some sector of the society accord that governments should convert it into fascinating buildings. This essay will deliberate the effectiveness of both perspective followed by my firm view which are mentioned in the subsequent paragraphs.

On the one hand, I and some conservationist reckon that restoring old buildings can add the cultural value to the society without looking at it's expenses. Concerning with it, old buildings such as town halls is prestigious as numbers of people can gather for the cultural event and can celebrate together in a big space rather than relying on new infrastructure like modern hotel for the events. Furthermore, art galleries can grab the attention of the visitors who are fond of art and due to this more and more number of people buy unique art works of the individuals which not only boost the sales but also it can make people realize the significance of the art.

On the other hand, some proponents of the society deem that the higher authorities should replace the old buildings with the new, modern architecture. To explain it in detail, in this neoteric era the interest rate among people in visiting town halls and art galleries has descent gradually, therefore they often contemplate that replacing the old buildings with the new one's is the suitable option. To exemplify, in the urban life most of the people are engaged in their monotonous life so converting old architecture into shopping malls and game zone can unwind their mind from the hectic schedule.

Conclusively, few individuals reckon that replacing historic sites into modern sites can have many upsides, however I prudently assert that restoring town halls and art galleries can enhance the beauty of the landmark as well as it can become the tourism hub.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historic sites versus the practical utility of modern infrastructure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'monotonous life' and 'game zones' is a bit simplistic and could have been expanded with more sophisticated reasoning. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a surface level, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Conclusively,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition into the example about shopping malls. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items like 'neoteric,' 'extravagant,' and 'prudently.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'considered as a boon,' 'accord that,' and 'interest rate among people... has descent.' These errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the precision and natural collocation required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('old buildings such as town halls is'), article usage, and pluralization ('new one's'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors occasionally impacts the clarity of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
