Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is irrefutable that nowadays, many individuals believe that antique buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be rebuilt, though it is quite expensive. While others argue that the governments should build new buildings by replacing them. This essay will discuss both views along with my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, old buildings provide much information about the history. Many things could be learnt by visiting these places. Most people think that these buildings should be restored because they are a rich source of history. For instance, Taj
Mahal is an antique building and also a symbol of true
love. Every year, it costs a billion dollars to keep it
clean and do its maintenance.
On the other hand, some argue that governments should replace the

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The arguments are somewhat superficial, and the supporting evidence, such as the statistics provided, lacks clarity and coherence. The conclusion is also quite brief and contains significant errors that obscure the intended meaning. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full development of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is often interrupted by unclear phrasing and grammatical errors. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', the connection between sentences is often weak. The final paragraph is particularly difficult to follow due to poor sentence structure and fragmented thoughts. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would help to improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'modern technique buildings' and 'share that a to mes', which impede the reader's understanding. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'restoration' and 'maintenance', the overall range is limited. To achieve a higher band score, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of architecture and history, and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, sentence fragments, and incorrect word order. For example, 'old building also sequire mare attention' and 'modern technique building should be built'. The range of sentence structures is limited, and the errors often make the text difficult to read. You need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and punctuation, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading your work for basic errors like spelling and missing articles would also be highly beneficial.
