Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether the government should spend the money on the restoration of the old building, which is expensive, or on installing new buildings. Although spending money on the construction of new buildings is a good option, I believe that old buildings such as town halls and art galleries should not be replaced because these buildings represent the history and heritage of a country.
On the one hand, those who argue that modern buildings should be constructed instead of spending money on the repair of old buildings. This method is not productive in terms of expenses because these days labour costs are too high, and the repair of old buildings takes time to build the old designs. Therefore, because expensive and time-consuming, spending money on the construction of old buildings is not a well-maintained method.
On the other hand, I support those who think that preserving old buildings is one of the greatest ways to recall history. This is because there are many buildings available in different nations which have a strong history. If the government replace them with modern ones, there are chances that tourist attractions may decrease, which further tends to be reduced economy of a country. Thus, to boost not only the country's economy but also histroy relation among people, Historical building should not be demolished for contemporary ones.
In conclusion, while it is expensive for the government to spend money on the repair of old buildings because of labour costs, the preservation of these buildings may further increase to strong bond between people during tourist journeys with their families and friends, and also improve the tourist attraction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the economic impact of tourism is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. The second paragraph is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on the cost of labor without introducing broader arguments about modern architectural efficiency or urban planning. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your supporting points with more detailed explanations or concrete illustrations, ensuring that the 'why' behind your opinion is thoroughly articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This method is not productive in terms of expenses.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the conclusion where the link between 'tourist journeys' and 'strong bond between people' feels disjointed. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used more naturally would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'restoration,' 'heritage,' and 'demolished.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'well-maintained method' to describe a construction approach, or 'histroy relation among people.' There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and varying your word choice to avoid repeating the same terms throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'spend the money on the restoration of the old building' (article usage), 'If the government replace them' (subject-verb agreement), and 'reduced economy of a country' (missing article/preposition). Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'Therefore, because expensive and time-consuming, spending money on the construction of old buildings is not a well-maintained method.' Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
