Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many metropolitan cities, there are many old buildings and art galleries are in very bad condition that the people are requesting government to either renovate them, or should at least restore them to preserve the old memories. However, there are some pros and cons to both of these ideas. Let's see in details.

If we redevelop entire buildings including art galleries, then definitely it's a great lose of the old architecture and preserved carvings on a wall. As a result, our next generation might face difficulty to feel and know about the original structure. It won't give that soothing feel. The biggest example is in our the Big show art gallery at Churchgate Road. Now after rebuilding it, less people are visiting everyday and a numbers are still declining. Even though new technology has been incorporated in the entire building like, elevator and automatic door opening, etc.

I am in the favor of restoring the buildings as it maintain it's old fashioned aura in the authentic manner. Which ultimately attracts more travelers across the globe. For instance the oldest temple in Mumbai, nearly 3000 years old monument has restored, and hence it's now became a world heritage. But the major drawback of the restoration is, it won't be last long as if it had been renovated.

In the conclusion, whether we decide to have a new building or restoration, in both the cases we may lose the original vibes to that place. So need to spread an awareness in people as not make any harm at an historical places before visiting there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of restoration and the drawbacks of rebuilding, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. For instance, the example of the 'Big show art gallery' is vague, and the conclusion introduces a new, slightly off-topic point about public awareness rather than summarising the main arguments. To improve, ensure each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your points and maintains a consistent focus on the prompt's core tension between preservation and modernisation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'For instance', and 'In the conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'in both the cases we may lose the original vibes to that place'. Additionally, some transitions feel abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help create a more cohesive and professional flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use some basic phrasing, such as 'very bad condition' and 'great lose', which should be 'great loss'. There are also some awkward collocations like 'soothing feel' and 'original vibes'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to architecture and urban planning, such as 'architectural heritage', 'modernisation', or 'structural integrity', and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a numbers are still declining'), incorrect article usage (e.g., 'in our the Big show'), and punctuation errors. Furthermore, there are errors in tense usage, such as 'it's now became a world heritage'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency.
