Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals argue that old architectures such as town halls and art galleries, should be renovated and others think building new, modern buildings is the right choice when investing huge capital. This essay will discuss both point of views and share personal opinion.
On the one hand, people often from different countries visit for tourism to see these old buildings and art galleries. For example, Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders in the world. To maintain the monument government spend lot of money. However, as more and more tourists visits the place it helps government to generate good source of income and employment opportunity.
On the other hand, people have a belief that generation is shifting to the modern society and not a lot of people are interested in these kind of old building and believe government should spend more money towards making new, modern buildings for the future generations. For instance, making of hotels, condominiums, modern home, etc. make more sense to the people.
Whereas in my opinion, I strongly believe we should save old architectures even if it is high maintenance. We should respect and admire the beauty of it. Moreover, instead of replacing we could make new, modern buildings anyways without even disturbing out historic monuments.
In conclusion, historic buildings which requires lot of money to get restoration. often generate income through tourism. Whereas modern people have modern solutions to make futuristic buildings, I on the other hand stand with the idea of restoring old buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the argument for restoration is supported by the example of the Taj Mahal, the counter-argument regarding modern buildings is less developed, relying on a list of examples like 'hotels' and 'condominiums' without explaining why these are superior to historic preservation. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the prompt rather than synthesizing the arguments. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' behind the arguments, such as the cultural value of history versus the economic efficiency of modern infrastructure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to signal shifts in the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally choppy. For instance, the transition in the final paragraph is slightly abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of 'Whereas' at the start of the fourth paragraph is grammatically incorrect in this context, as it functions as a conjunction rather than a transition word.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use basic terms like 'good source of income' and 'make more sense'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'old architectures' (architecture is an uncountable noun) and 'modern people' (which sounds slightly unnatural). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to urban planning and heritage, such as 'architectural heritage', 'urban development', or 'economic viability'. The range is sufficient to communicate your ideas, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('historic buildings which requires', 'tourists visits') and missing articles ('the government', 'the Taj Mahal'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'disturbing out historic monuments'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
