Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many think our old castles should be maintained even though it might be expensive as others government should replace them with modern structures.
though this replacement will add sophistication to the building there will be economic implications. i strongly suggest that old building should be retained because it will provide a historic origin to our tourist.
firstly, one major reason for maintaining an a building is that it can be use to generate revenue for the town as visitors troop in to see one popular old mansion. For example people from different countries travel to France just see the oldest hostel and even lodge in the closest hotel around the area just to have a view of the old castle
on the other hand, the decision to demolish of an old building by government can result to loss of historic origin, for instance the pyramid in Egypt have preserved the story of their existence for ages and still counting

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 161 words. Consequently, the ideas are significantly underdeveloped. While you attempt to address both views and state an opinion, the arguments lack the necessary depth and supporting detail required for a higher band. The conclusion is incomplete, ending abruptly after the phrase 'in conclusion'. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples, and ensure you provide a full, structured conclusion that summarizes your main points and restates your position clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas are not logically sequenced, and the transition between the introduction, body paragraphs, and the conclusion is weak. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as the abrupt start to the second paragraph and the incomplete final sentence. The lack of a proper conclusion significantly impacts the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'old buildings' and 'modern structures' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'historic origin' instead of 'historical significance' and 'visitors troop in' which is not standard academic phrasing. Spelling errors, such as 'an a building' and the lack of capitalization for 'i', also detract from the quality of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and capitalization errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'old building should be retained'), article usage (e.g., 'the pyramid in Egypt have preserved'), and sentence structure. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or slightly flawed complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Practicing complex sentence structures will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
