Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the point about historical value is supported by an example from India, the counter-argument regarding economic costs is slightly repetitive and lacks depth. The introduction is a bit brief and could have been more effectively used to outline the essay's scope. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the implications of the arguments presented, rather than just stating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'To Conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation, particularly the misuse of commas and spaces before punctuation marks (e.g., 'culture .However', 'time . for instance'). Improving the control of punctuation and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the flow and cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'financially daunting' and 'infrastructure', which is positive. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'take over them' instead of 'replace them' and 'portrait' instead of 'portray'. Additionally, there are minor spelling and collocation errors throughout the text. Expanding the range of precise vocabulary and focusing on correct word forms would help reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'libraries... plays', 'government have to'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'architecture evolves', 'can leads to'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, is essential for improvement.
