Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 169 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments provided are brief and lack sufficient supporting examples or depth. While the essay addresses both views and states a clear position, the under-length nature of the response means that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand on your points by providing specific examples, such as mentioning a particular historical building or explaining the economic benefits of tourism in more detail. The current ideas are too general and underdeveloped to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While there is a logical progression, the lack of depth makes the overall flow feel disjointed. You should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast', rather than relying on simple transitions like 'To begin with' or 'However'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'change them with latest, modern building' instead of 'replace them with modern structures'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word forms, such as 'belive' (believe) and 'requirments' (requirements). To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'architectural heritage', 'urban development', or 'cost-effective', and ensure you check your spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('some citizens think that old building' should be 'buildings'), article usage ('the population grow' should be 'the population is growing'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are often repetitive and lack the variety needed for a higher score. You should work on mastering basic sentence construction and then incorporate more complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are grammatically accurate.
