Student answer (Band 6.0)
The majority of people believe that traditional buildings like town halls and galleries should be repaired , however, others argue that restoring building is expensive so government should replace them with modern buildings. This essay will discuss both views prior to my perspective on this topic.
There are many reasons why people support the idea to restore the building. The most prominent reason is that preserve the historic moments. To explain it, old buildings are the symbol of history. If old pieces such as art galleries and town halls restored then the future generation will know about the culture and historic buildings. As a result, young generation will be familiar with the cultural background as well. For example, Amritsar sahib building has restored many times , but the significance of building is still same and people are aware about the history of this building . Though it is quite expensive to repair traditional structures but it is very important to save such buildings for future generations.
On the flip side, people argue that government should make modern buildings because youth are less interested in cultural and historical things. Individuals believe that new buildings such as theatre , park and community hall should be constructed instead of restoring old buildings. It is mainly because of the youngster’s demand of entertainment places more than old traditional buildings. However, I believe that government ought to restore old buildings because younger will known about the history. Otherwise they have lack of knowledge regarding old structures.
In conclusion, although it is costly to repair old buildings but government should restore them in order to protect the historic structures and culture. They should also make modern buildings for entertainment purposes but not replace to old ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some development is limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'youngster’s demand of entertainment' is a good point, but it could have been expanded with more specific examples of how modern facilities benefit society. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that the supporting arguments are more thoroughly explored, perhaps by contrasting the long-term cultural value of heritage sites against the immediate economic utility of modern infrastructure more deeply.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The most prominent reason', 'On the flip side', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain it' or 'Otherwise they have lack of knowledge'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is logical, though the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by varying the linking words used.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'prominent' and 'significance', but the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'historic moments' (which should be 'historical significance') and 'younger will known' (which is a grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'old buildings' and 'modern buildings' by using synonyms like 'heritage sites', 'antiquated structures', or 'contemporary architecture'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'If old pieces... restored then' (missing auxiliary verb), 'younger will known' (incorrect verb form), and 'not replace to old ones' (incorrect preposition). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are spacing issues before commas. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice would significantly enhance the accuracy of the writing.
