Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 136 words long and remains unfinished. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you introduce both views and provide a relevant example (Casa Loma), the discussion is severely underdeveloped. The essay stops abruptly in the second paragraph, meaning your own opinion is not clearly stated or supported as required by the prompt. To improve, you must ensure you complete all parts of the task, including a clear introduction, balanced body paragraphs for both views, and a concluding paragraph that synthesizes your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to structure the arguments. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the overall coherence. Paragraphing is present, but the second paragraph is incomplete, which prevents a logical flow of ideas. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding section makes the progression of the argument feel unfinished. To improve, focus on developing each paragraph fully and ensuring that your ideas are connected by a clear, logical structure that leads to a definitive conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some relevant terms such as 'heritage', 'culture', 'modernisation', and 'preserved'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'conturies' (countries) and 'bulidings' (buildings). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is a reliance on simple phrasing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling. For example, instead of 'repaired', you could use 'restored' or 'renovated', and instead of 'old', you might use 'historic' or 'architectural landmarks'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, 'According to few individuals old structures...' lacks necessary punctuation, and 'there are also some things they used which have still being preserved' contains a tense error ('have still been preserved'). Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses. Practicing the construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your range and accuracy.
