Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, containing only 88 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the development of ideas is severely limited. While you have attempted to introduce both views and state a position, the essay stops abruptly after the first sentence of the first body paragraph. To achieve a higher band, you must provide fully developed arguments with supporting examples and reach the word count requirement. The current length prevents a proper discussion of the topic, resulting in a failure to meet the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'However', the progression of ideas is interrupted by the premature ending of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of content makes it difficult to assess the overall flow. To improve, you need to ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by supporting arguments and a concluding thought, linked together with a variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your reasoning.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and contains several errors in word choice and form, such as 'reconstruct' instead of 'restored' and 'instinct' instead of 'extinct'. There is also a lack of variety in the language used to discuss the topic. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to architecture, heritage, and urban development. Focus on using words in their correct context and pay attention to word forms to ensure your meaning is clear and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include 'this buildings should be change' (subject-verb agreement and passive voice error) and 'former viewers think' (incorrect word choice). The sentence structures are simple and often lack proper punctuation. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and the use of articles. Practicing the formation of complex sentences will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range, which is essential for higher band scores.
