Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals thought that old buildings for instance town halls and art galleries should go under renovation although it can be costly. The rest argues that governments should convert them into new futuristic building. In this essay, i will discuss the balanced approach in prevention and conversion of old historic building should be implement.
Firstly, the preservation of old museums, art galleries are very important because it reflects and create more awareness in the public about their history and culture background. Such as, the war museums represents the use of war equipment in past were less advanced as compare to modern era. Even though, the cost of maintaining these structures are expensive but for the sake of wisdom, knowledge and scarifies for country and societies its worth to save and prevent them to get lost.
On the other hand, some historic building are getting outdated and very difficult maintain. for example, Ontario museum went under extreme remodeling procedure in order to change their outlook with modern futuristic designs. But they retained the integrity of their internal unique structures and sculptures during the process.
To sum up, in my perspective the proper measure should take while taking care of old building and they should undergo reconstruction whenever the necessity is their for safety of the society and surrounded buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 218 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain somewhat superficial. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, the arguments provided are brief and lack sufficient supporting examples or depth. The position is clear, but the under-length nature of the essay prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic, leading to a penalty in task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor errors in referencing. Paragraphing is present, but the transitions between ideas could be smoother. The overall structure is coherent, but the limited length restricts the ability to demonstrate more sophisticated cohesive techniques.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express basic ideas about building preservation and renovation. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'integrity', 'futuristic', and 'remodeling', but there are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'go under renovation' instead of 'undergo renovation' and 'cultural background' instead of 'cultural heritage'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Many individuals thought', 'museums... is very important'), incorrect verb forms ('should be implement'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, which limits the score in this criterion.
