Student answer (Band 6.0)
In contemporary society, it is often debated that whether the government should spend more money in restoring the old architecture buildings, or they should replace the older ones with the new modern buildings. I personally reckon, that government should preserve their cultural heritage. Let us discuss both the views, followed by my own opinion in the subsequent paragraphs.
To begin with, this section focuses on the advantages of preserving old architecture buildings. First and foremost, old heritage building generates enormous amount of tourism. To elaborate, people across the world loves travel to cities to experience their heritage. By keeping old buildings such as ancient town halls, hotels, library's , etc. not only helps in boosting local economy, but also creates a job market.. To cite an example, People across the world loves to visit New Hamburg, which is located in the Wilmot region of Ontario, Canada. The local government of the region have put efforts to preserve their vintage town houses, library, the firestation, pudicomb hotel, which attracts huge number of tourists every year. Additionaly, govenment also generates money by allowing various production houses to shoot movies or web series. Therefore, preserving old buildings is expensive, but for long run they genrate plenty of funds that boost the economy of the nation.
On the contrary, this paragraph would focus on the downsides of restoring old buildings. Primarily, modern buildings are much more safer to live. To clarify, many people belive the government should demolish the old buildings, because they are not safe to live in, and hardly have any modern facilities provided by the new buildings. For example, modern houses or apartments have better features such as proper electrical units, more open spaces, and maintance cost is quite less. Hence, people saves money when they lives or uses modern building as the cost of maintence is quite cheaper than the old heritage buildings.
In my opinon, I do believe that people should preserve the old buildings, as they are part of our culturalheritage. The architectural work done on those buildings are comentable and gives chance to many students to study those buildings.
To encapsulate, it can be concluded that old buildings does generates a lot of revenue, but at the same time the cost of mainting them is quite high. I think people and government should make efforts to save them as they are part of our cultural heritage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, particularly the economic benefits of tourism and the practical advantages of modern infrastructure. However, the development of the opinion in the conclusion is somewhat brief compared to the body paragraphs. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response effectively balances the two perspectives, though some points, such as the specific examples of maintenance costs, could be more thoroughly explained to demonstrate a deeper level of critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'To begin with,' 'On the contrary,' and 'To encapsulate,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence-level flow. For instance, the transition between the economic benefits and the mention of movie production houses is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a central theme, which contributes to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'cultural heritage,' 'architecture,' and 'revenue.' However, there are several spelling errors ('library's', 'pudicomb', 'govenment', 'maintance', 'comentable') and minor collocation issues ('architecture buildings' instead of 'architectural structures'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. Improving spelling accuracy and using more varied synonyms would significantly enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('old buildings does generates', 'people saves money', 'people loves travel') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing apostrophes. While the student attempts complex sentences, these often contain errors that slightly impede the flow. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that pluralization is handled correctly.
